Chronicle: The Missing Host
Hampton Roads refers the a large area of Virginia (and possibly some of North Carolina and Maryland) as a major metropolitan area. It is a large slab of concrete and tourism that spans all of the Chesapeake Bay, stretching from the Dismal Swamp on the North Carolina-Virginia border all the way past Washington DC. While this area is the birthplace of the United States, it has been spiraling down into a cesspit of unchecked Urban Decay. Virginia hasn’t been able to recover from Philip Morris’ decline as a tobacco industry and the loss of 3 US Navy bases in the late 80s and early 90s.
Recent economic issues haven’t been kind to VA in general either. Drugs have been on the rise, methamphetamines being the new trend while old standbys such as Crack-Cocaine remain strong. Gang activity is very strong and has been gaining moment due to massive immigration. Nearly 25% of the local population are immigrates.
At the top of the food chain, old wealth still dominates. Many of the wealth families have been so since the Civil War or before and social mobility is at an all-time low. It is always very obvious who will be elected and to where for those in the financial know.
